Apley Farm Shop struck gold this weekend at a prestigious competition for sausages & pies. Butchers John Callinswood & Craig Whitehouse won a gold award (97/100) for their traditional pork sausage & a silver award (94/100) - Pork Stilton & Spring Onion – just 1 point off another gold award.

Apley Farm Shop’s butchers John Callinswood & Craig Whitehouse began “We’re obviously delighted with this outcome. We love preparing meat for Apley Farm Shop’s customers, using locally sourced meat & local ingredients, so this is a real reward for all our work”

Staffordshire & Birmingham Agricultural Society hosted their awards ceremony this weekend at the Staffordshire County Showground, sponsored by AHDB Pork & Lucas Ingredients.

It’s not the first time John has won awards for his work: In the past, John has won the best pork pie in the Midlands. Lady Hamilton, Marketing Manager, added “Of course, we hope there will be many other awards to follow in 2016 !“

Other varieties of sausage produced include Moroccan lamb, beef & horse radish, pork & tomato, pork & apple, pork & leek, pork, honey & mustard, pork & black pepper. They’ll be offering free tasters of these award winners on Saturday 28 November during the Apley Farm Shop Christmas Food Fair, 10-4pm. For Christmas orders, they have free range Kelly Bronze turkeys, free range geese, British White beef from the Apley Estate & Christmas hams from free range pork. Craig added “We also create game pies from Apley’s own game, which can be also be made bespoke”.

Nearly all their products can be bespoke for customers’ wishes. For example, if a customer wants an egg & mushroom pork pie, it’ll be handmade at Apley & ready within 2 days.

Apley Estate owner Lord Hamilton added “Very soon, some of our products will be available to order online for the first time ever via our DeliShop. It’s a Click & Collect service which is a very exciting step for us as we enter our fifth year since opening in 2011.”
