Wroxeter Roman City

Once the fourth largest city in Roman Britain with up to 5,000 citizens, Wroxeter was equal in size to Pompeii in Italy 2000 years ago. Originally a legionary fortress and developed into a thriving civilian city, populated by traders and retired soldiers, today its ruins stand amid open fields. You can still see the remains of the municipal baths and treatment rooms and the huge wall dividing them from the exercise hall!

Take the audio tour to find out how the city worked in its heyday and discover a wealth of site finds in the fascinating museum. You can also visit the recreation of a Roman town house complete with painted rooms and replicas of furniture from the period.
