Weston Park, the stately home on the Staffordshire/ Shropshire border welcomes the Hamilton Kerr Institute back to the estate for vital conservation works on the historic collection and this time there is an opportunity for the public to share in their discoveries and the secrets of how they and Weston Park care for the nation’s heritage.

The historic former home of the Earls of Bradford, which was gifted to the nation in 1986, holds a staggering 30,000 objects ranging from portraits by van Dyck to 1980s family photographs, from Chippendale chairs to stuffed parrots – all of which require specialist care and attention.

Gareth Williams, Curator and Head of Learning to the Weston Park Foundation adds, “Weston Park’s collection is regarded as of international importance and this fascinating day will give a real opportunity for unparalleled access to how we care for the paintings and the many other items that make up the collection. Our Historic Conservation Study Day offers a chance to understand the various agents of deterioration and why they are a threat to the long term preservation of not only collections like Weston’s but the treasured heirlooms that many homes have.”

The Historic Conservation Study Day costs £75 per person, which includes a two course lunch in the Dining Room, tea, coffee and biscuits, demonstration, lecture and expert led tour.
