"No room at the inn” this Christmas

By Discover Shropshire & Telford, 17 November 2016, 13:20PM

Bosses at an award-winning Shropshire hotel are saying “there is no room at the inn” this Christmas after celebrating a record-breaking year.

Bosses at Buckatree Hall Hotel in Wellington say visitor numbers have increased during 2016 and the fully booked venue over the Christmas period points to the continued success of the hotel.

Three coach parties have been booked in for four days over Christmas which will see all of the bedrooms full. The hotel is also giving a helping hand to local economy as all guests will enjoy a Boxing Day trip to the panto.

General manager Wayne Jenson said the hotel was going from strength to strength and 2016 had been a great year - breaking previous records.

“It’s onwards and upwards in a big way,” Mr Jenson said. “Buckatree Hall has enjoyed a great year and it just keeps getting better.

“We have been busy all the way through 2016 and have had an amazing response to our Christmas coach parties special.

“Part of the deal is to spend Christmas at the hotel and visit the pantomime at Oakengates on Boxing Day. It is the ideal opportunity for people who may be alone at this time of year to be part of a group and celebrate the festivities together.

“Three coach parties have been booked in from December 23rd to the 27th and while they are with us they enjoy dinner, bed and breakfast entertainment and excursions.

“This year’s panto at Oakengates is Sleeping Beauty. It has a star-studded cast and should prove a delight for our guests.

“The coach trips include single elderly people who don’t want to be alone at Christmas but would rather be with like-minded people who want to celebrate together.

“People who live abroad often pay for their elderly relatives to go on trips like ours so they know they are safe and with other people during the festive period.”

Mr Jenson said Christmas can be a very lonely time for some people.

He added: “it’s nice to think we can play host to some of them and hopefully give them a Christmas to remember.

“The fully booked hotel means visitor numbers are up again and shows the continuing popularity of the hotel. We are fortunate to be in a marvellous setting in the shadow of The Wrekin and Shropshire has so much to offer, all within relatively easy travelling distance of the Buckatree.

“While our rooms are booked up over the Christmas period - you might say there is no room at the inn - there are plenty of other things going on at the hotel all through December and into the New Year.”
